Class Offerings

Community Preschool offers half-day programs, starting in September and concluding in May. Our curriculum follows the guidelines set forth and mandated by the Ohio Department of Education (ODE). In addition, we also practice the Heggerty Phonemic Awareness Curriculum, which equips students with early phonemic awareness skills.

Me & My Tyke (Adult - Toddler) Class

Winter Session Canceled Due To Low Enrollment.

This is a great class to prepare your child to start preschool while providing a positive first-school experience. It provides a support group that allows parents to discuss the common challenges and joys of parenting. Your child will explore and socialize through PLAY! Watch them grow through circle time, art, reading stories, and more. Lastly, have fun with your child!

Class meets on Fridays for one hour from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. It is recommended that the child be at least 2.5 years old and must be accompanied by a parent/guardian.

5-Year-Old Program (16 hours per week)

The 5-year-old program follows curriculum guidelines that combine 4-year-old and kindergarten skills with a focus on pre-reading and literacy skills through the increased knowledge of identifying sight words and other phonics skills. This class is for students who turn five by December 31 or families who seek an additional year of preschool to build the social and emotional skills to better prepare the child for the academic demands of a kindergarten program. This class meets from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. four days a week.

3-Year-Old Program (5 to 7.5 hours per week)

The 3-year-old program allows the child to explore various activities to support their development in different areas.

Self-regulation
Recognize and spell their names
Learning about shapes, sizes, colors, and counting
Participate in circle time activities like the calendar, date collecting, and story time
Creative art through various art materials.
Building large and fine motor skills through play
Growing from individual play to cooperative play

We offer two morning class options. Our 3-day morning classes meet Monday through Wednesday, and our 2-day class meets on Thursdays and Fridays. Both classes are from 9:30 a.m. to noon. The child must be potty-trained and 3 years old by September 1st.

4-Year-Old Program (12 to 16 hours per week)

The 4-year-old program exposes the child to many activities that help with different areas of development. The major focus of the 4-year-old program is the curriculum guidelines set forth and mandated by the Ohio Department of Education (ODE), but also includes:

Socialization by encouraging the sharing of individual thoughts in a group setting
Heggerty phonemic awareness program
Pre-math skills such as sorting, patterning, sequencing, and simple addition
Building of fine motor skills through art, drawing, and play
Building gross motor skills through play, dancing, and exercise

This class meets Monday through Wednesday for 4 hours per day from 8:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.

SPECIAL PROGRAMMING

Students benefit from special visitors throughout the year, including the Geauga West Librarian, Dina School through Catholic Charities, a wildlife specialist from the Geauga Park District, and many more.
